SOLWAY COLLEGE

Ballance, Morrinsville
Central Demolition was contracted by Ballance to remove the 1500m2 of asbestos super six roofing from the Bag Store at their Morrinsville site. This building is a steep pitch design with a full-length conveyor top running the length of the building. The steep roof angle of this building was the main complexity of this project. The asbestos sheets were removed using various work-at-height methods, including a four-layer safety net and plastic system, scaffolding, EWP, rope and harness.
The project was completed ahead of schedule and to a high standard that was signed off without requiring further work.

Tōmoana Showgrounds, Hastings
We undertook the deconstruction of the grandstand at Tōmoana Showgrounds, Hastings after a building assessment confirmed significant deterioration to the roof and support structure.
The deconstruction of the grandstand, which dated from the 1960s, was undertaken for Te Kaunihera ā-Rohe o Heretaunga - Hastings District Council following a tender process. Our team achieved 92% waste diversion from the deconstruction. This includes concrete being crushed at the local quarry and being reused as aggregate, metals being processed at local metal dealers, glass being sent to the local recycling centre, and native timber being repurposed by a local salvage specialist.

MASSEY UNIVERSITY VET TOWER
In preparation for the safe demolition of the Palmerston North building, we executed a complete core structure strip out (9 stories), which included:
- 18 separate asbestos enclosures including a single hero enclosure containing the 9 storey tower
- Building separation
- Removal of 1260 windows
All 10,000 tonnes of concrete and 600 tonnes of reinforced steel were recycled via our partner company, Central Environmental.

Residential Class A asbestos removal New Plymouth
This was a Class A project due to the asbestos floor covering in the kitchen becoming friable (airborne) during the removal process. Due to the risk of airborne fibre release during the removal scope, the team created an airtight enclosure. A three-stage decontamination entry point and negative pressure unit set up at the opposite end to a three-stage entry point was also required to mitigate cross-contamination to the property. The image on the left was taken during removal, with the image on the right taken once all the asbestos floor covering had been removed.
